The bilingual presentation of last night's Democratic candidates' debate gave me the warm fuzzies that haven't been easy to evoke recently. If you're from India, you're accustomed to bilingual discourse; seeing it in my adopted home bolstered my sense of belonging here despite my almost non-existent knowledge of Spanish. It didn't matter that none of the candidates was particularly inspiring because one of the two major political parties was trolling for votes among folks for whom "fringe" issues like immigrant rights were central. Not that this is anything new but, being that this was the first such debate, I think I can muster up some optimism that the Democrats aren't entirely rudderless in their quest for themselves.
As for the debate itself, nothing was said that I hadn't heard before. I too would like to think that Bush has been a "miserable failure" but repeating it over and over ain't gonna convince me that you're gonna be any better.
