So Howard Dean is the "far-Left" liberal according to so many of the supporters and apologists of the administration. What is it exactly that makes him guilty of this capital crime in our political culture? Is it his emphasis on balancing the budget? Or his opinion that gun-control laws should be the domain of the states? Perhaps it's his audacity to suggest that same-sex couples should have the same legal standing as different-sex couples.
And what is it that makes Bush the embodiment of conservatism? It can't be that he took the nation into war based upon questionable intelligence, with little planning for its aftermath and thumbing his nose at our allies and most of the world. Nor could it be the logic-defying tax-cut for those who don't need it while the rest of us are jittery about our livelihoods. Reckless is the best word that comes to mind, a far cry from conservative.
